About DHIY
Dorset and Hampshire Iyengar Yoga is a non-profit organisation promoting the Iyengar Yoga method in the south of England, across the counties of Dorset and Hampshire. A large part of what we do is putting on affordable yoga events from visiting teachers, and promoting events and classes from our local teachers.
What is Iyengar Yoga?
The Iyengar method of yoga, named after esteemed teacher Yogacharya Sri B.K.S. Iyengar, focuses on finding inner alignment and precision. It prioritises deep exploration of asana and pranayama, and the internal experience found while doing so. Props such as blocks and belts are often used for support for injury, safety, or to encourage different experiences. Initial benefits include increased flexibility, strength, and physical health, while ongoing practice brings deeper psychological benefits.

How is DHIY Organised?
Dorset and Hampshire Iyengar Yoga is run by an elected committee of volunteers, who organise events, run the website and mailing lists, liaise with Iyengar Yoga UK, and generally keep things going. Our constitution guides what we do, and it is publicly available for anyone to read.
We also run yearly AGMs for our members, where we elect new executive committee members into our various roles, and report on how things are going across the organisation. Our AGMs are minuted, and you can read the minutes of previous AGMs, approved each following year:
